Sol System: Shaping Light

Design, Technology and Versatility in One Vision

How would you describe the Sol family in three words?
Versatile, useful, innovative

What was the main inspiration?
The product introduces a new technical solution.
It combines the versatility of an electrified track with the diffuse light and architecture of a LED panel: it offers the market a new tool to light any space with minimal light points and a unique graphic identity.

As both a lighting and product designer, the idea was born from my everyday professional experience.
Sol is not a product, but a modular system that adapts to spatial, aesthetic, and lighting needs.

It provides designers with a powerful tool: a new concept of electrified track (patented solution) that allows light to be brought exactly where needed with the most appropriate technique (spot, wall washer, linear LED, suspension, and diffuse light).

Sol enables the combination of linear technical elements with flat luminous surfaces of various shapes.

The system allows designers to create infinite compositions with strong visual identities by alternating lines and luminous surfaces.

I worked as a consultant for Ivela and Elcom during the creation of the Starlight group.
I supported both companies in developing the new catalog and in selecting products to market — a role that allowed me to get to know both industrial realities up close.
Elcom showed deep expertise in large-scale LED panels, while Ivela was highly specialized in electrified tracks and projectors.

I wanted "Sol System" to become the synthesis of Elcom and Ivela’s expertise.

What challenges did you face during the design process?
The biggest challenge was creating a concept capable of introducing innovative technical and commercial topics to the market.
From a development standpoint, the challenge was to achieve a system that is both functional and aesthetically contemporary, combining two very different product types (technical linear products with large flat surfaces, and spot/diffused elements).

What’s your take on artificial intelligence?
It’s an incredibly interesting technology that is disrupting and transforming every field of knowledge.
In my opinion, this is a trend that must not and cannot be hindered.

It will bring about rapid change, and we humans will simply have to learn to manage and control it better and better.

I’m not a traditionalist — the world evolves thanks to these changes. We just have to be ready.

My job? I don’t believe it can be entirely carried out by AI. It can support many design phases, but the intellectual ability to query the system correctly and assess whether the results are appropriate will always remain mine.

AI will never be able to empathize with the client, fully grasp their unspoken needs, or interact effectively with the different professionals involved in a project. It won’t have the sensitivity to evaluate whether what it generates is ethical and correct: it’s just a powerful tool at our disposal.

What do you expect for the future of lighting?
In Italy, it’s still a relatively new field, undergoing significant evolution.

I perceive increasing curiosity, sensitivity, and awareness from the market, but lighting is still too often underestimated.

We are facing a major energy crisis, and everyone is called to be more responsible and act ethically.

Professionals will need to be more qualified and deliver more meticulous solutions. Companies will have to raise their technical expertise — building more efficient products, improving industrialization, and wasting fewer resources. Clients will need to learn to listen more deeply.

AI can be a support, but we must drive the change.
